Paramormal Magazine

Just did some work for Paranormal magazine, and it turned out pretty nice- check it out. Nice repro and design.

In the meantime, here's an 'out-take' piece that didn't make it into the article.

You can find more paranormal-type stuff here by searching the Monsters and Mythology labels.

How Embarrassing!

These were all for Sugar magazine's 'How Embarrassing!' feature and are based on true life cringe-inducing stories sent in by their teenage readers.

M*cbeth 01

A while back I was asked to supply some character sketches for the Manga Shakespeare line, with a view to doing a graphic novel based on 'the Scottish play'. Like so many pitches, it was all for nothing, but at least i have some unseen art I can show you. First up is the man himself. The rest of the cast to follow this week...

It's Vulgar But I Did It Anyway

A while back, I was asked to pitch ideas and sketches for a proposed TV sketch show. Needless to say, it was unpaid and remains uncommisioned. This was one idea- the "Sorry mate!" guy. If you're a guy in Britain, every other guy calls you mate. If they are in your way going through a doorway, accidently standing on your toe, or heaven forbid, spilling your pint, a quick "Sorry mate!" usually irons everything out. It's some kind of unspoken ettiquette in public to avoid bar brawls etc. I suppose in the States they'd say "dude" instead. So I thought you could apply this to some slob in ever-increasing awful situations, where no matter how vile his actions were, he always apologised and got away with it. Anyway, it's a very British-English, even-idea, and I probably haven't explained it veRy well, but that's A bit of context for this this revolting scene. And of course, if you see somebody else use it, you saw it here first!

Grim Stein

A bit grim. Yet another version. I never get bored of drawing the creature, but I promise I'll be finished with him by the end of the week.

Frankie Stein

I loved Frankie Stein as a kid and followed his adventures in Whoopee! He was created by the sublime Ken Reid but I am much more familiar with the incarnation of the character drawn by the late great Robert Nixon.

So my version will never be as good as those guys, but it was fun to do.

Portfolio Week 04

I've done a lot of work for the teenage market, most notably for Mary Glasgow Magazines (a division of Scholastic) and Sugar, which may or may not still be the UK's number one magazine for teenage girls. For a while I drew many 'embarrassing moment' illos for Sugar, (I will post more of these in the future, they were a lot of fun to do) in case you are wondering where I got the idea to draw the girl farting in the boy's face. It's a true story!
